Hi fam! I wanted to share a few of my go-to budget friendly snacks and sides I prefer to make at home instead of buying at the store. Not only are they cheaper and healthier, but making them yourself gives you the freedom to get creative and add whatever you’re in the mood for! I’ve included links to my favorite recipes below. I hope you enjoy!
Granola

Granola is a crunchy, tasty, and versatile snack you can enjoy just about anytime in the day and it’s so easy to make! You can’t go wrong with adding nuts, chocolate, dried fruit, or whatever you’d like. Making it yourself is also so much healthier and cheaper than the store bought alternatives.

Pickles

Try pickling your favorite veggies at home with these 3 simple ingredients (vinegar, sugar, and salt). It’s easy to do and adds great flavor to your sandwiches, burgers, salads and more. My go-to’s are carrots, cauliflower, jalapeños and of course, the good old fashioned cucumber.

Salad Dressing

Have you ever read the ingredients on the back of a store bought salad dressing? There can be as many as 15-20 ingredients in the dressing and some I can’t even pronounce. In the past, when I bought salad dressing, I would use it once or twice then let it sit in the fridge for months before using it again. Now, I make it as needed. and when I say “I” I really mean my husband 🙂 We use easy ingredients that we can actually pronounce and you probably already have on hand. I’m not listing measurements because, as my good friend Tabitha Brown says, “Just let the spirit guide you😉
Ingredients: Vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, lemon and agave.

Hummus
I love hummus! I use it as a dip for chips and veggies and enjoy it with some pita bread. It’s a great snack and is full of protein. Feel free to put your own spin on it. In the Valles household, the classic garlic hummus is always a winner.

Nut Butters

Last week my husband and I tried making our own cashew butter for the first time and it was a total success! I started off by toasting the cashews and letting them cool. Then I threw the cashews in the food processor and let it work its magic. I’m looking forward to doing this again and experimenting with a few add ins like flax meal, dark chocolate and chia seeds.
I hope you enjoyed reading about these recipes and that they give you a few ideas of what you can start making at home yourself☺️
